Pirate festival- August long weekend

While we were camping at Guelph Lake with the Porty’s, our sister in law, Lauren, suggested that we visit the pirate festival in Marden. The kids had been horrible all day so far, so we left early, strapped them in the van drove around for almost an hour. This break in the day gave me a chance to relax and cool down, avoiding the possibility of being charged with child abandonment. Once there, I instantly wished that we had come in costume. We were surrounded by pirates. There was even a fresh wee baby dressed for life on the sea. Though not huge, the festival was large enough to entertain us for the afternoon. There was an artisan market, live music, a kids play area and a few activities that ran throughout the day as well as live performances. Despite the heat, we did enjoy ourselves and left with butter tarts and memories of duels, fire eaters and poor pirate accents.
