Darlington Provincial Park- End of August

Our trip has officially begun. We decided to leave early and stay at Darlington. Once again, we were delighted by the park staff, programs and upkeep. We arrived around 9 pm and quickly set up camp for the night, the next day was spent learning about mushrooms, swimming, visiting with Aaron and Rachel and taking in the seasonal changes that have occurred since we were here last. When we were here in the spring, we arrived at the peak of their wild flower season. We had the fortune of walking through fragrant fields of Dames Rocket each evening.  This time, all that remained of them were the grey skeletons that signify the end of a season.  In their place, were fields of Golden rod, bringing with them the promise of cooler weather soon to come. The old wild apple trees that were starting to bud are now decorated with ripe fruit and the shore birds are no longer at risk of being disturbed during their nesting season. While the trees are still green and the weather is still warm, Mother Nature is able to easily fool us into thinking that summer will last forever. However, if you stop to feel the slights bite of the wind, or to notice the fall harvest slowly dressing itself in the rich colours of Autumn, you’ll know that it’s time to soak in every last minute that you can.
